Datchet

The village itself has a rich history that can be traced right back to the Doomsday Book of 1086, where it was recorded as “Daceta”. It’s location along the riverside made it a strategic crossing point over the Thames, leading to the establishment of various ferry services through the Medieval Period. The villages historic significance is further highlighted by its proximity to Windsor Castle and often you might catch a glimpse of royalty or dignitaries passing through.

Due to it being a village there are few landmarks of particular note; however, St Mary’s Church is a beautiful example of Victorian Gothic architecture, and the village green is surrounded by quaint cottages and historic buildings which offer a picturesque setting.

During summer months and festive holidays, the village and some nearby ones, hold village fayres and displays which have a popular turnout and are fun for all the family, often held on the last weekend of the month.

The village is also close to Windsor Great Park which provides expansive grounds perfect for picnicking, cycling, and horse riding.

For such a small village, Datchet is proud to boast a variety of eateries and shops. By Datchet station there is a little cafe called Nibbles, where fresh sandwiches and baguettes are made daily. If you’re looking for an aesthetic healthy, pink treat (emphasis on the pink) then look no further than The Acai Club opposite the train station. A trendy instagramable space that hold a run club every Sunday. If a cosy lunch or after work drinks are more your bag then The Royal Stag is Datchet local, dating back to the 15th century with a selection of ales and some proper British grub.

There are also a number of other facilities including a petrol station, Francos Italian wine bar, Costa Coffee, Spices Indian restaurant, a pharmacy, and a bridal shop.

The village of Datchet has a lot to offer and is a wonderful location for Link Spaces’ first venue.
